Desert Ridge High's Ian Jeffer Wins National Rising Star Award
Last week, Desert Ridge High School's Head Athletic Trainer, Ian Jeffer, was recognized with the fifth annual Henry Schein Medical Athletics and Schools Rising Star Award. This recognition is given to emerging athletic trainers with up to five years of experience in the Sports Medicine industry, acknowledging those who demonstrate a strong career trajectory.
The Rising Star Award specifically recognizes recently graduated athletic trainers who have not yet reached a senior chief-level position but show significant potential for advancement. Jeffers earned this national award for his exceptional care of students at Desert Ridge High School and for his management of a student sports medicine club that inspires future athletic trainers.
"A lot of the students want to get involved in healthcare now," said Ian Jeffers in an interview with Az Family. "In our programs, students have the chance to get a taste of what the healthcare world is like before they go off to college. I’m thrilled to be a part of that journey by introducing the medical field to them."
Known for his creative teaching methods, Mr. Jeffer supports students with college applications, supervises events, and fosters an interest in sports medicine within the community. As Head Athletic Trainer for Desert Ridge High School, he teaches sports medicine and provides care for the Jaguars, helping his student-athletes stay healthy. His student sports medicine club also engages junior high and elementary schools, promoting the profession to future Athletic Trainers.
As the award winner, Mr. Jeffer received a handheld muscle stimulator and a Medi Kit™ MULE roller bag filled with athletic training supplies. These tools will further enhance his care for student-athletes while offering unique teaching opportunities for his healthcare students.
