The focus of this course is to provide students the opportunity to develop a clear understanding of the ideas of calculus in a variety of ways.  Students will partake in an assortment of problems that are presented graphically, numerically, algebraically, and verbally.  Students will experience instruction in both theory and modeling.  They will then solidify their conceptual understanding by way of technology and geometric visualization with hand-drawings.  Students will be encouraged to work collaboratively with an experimental attitude.  In completion of this course the students will be able to use calculus as a language and a tool for dealing with functional relationships that occur in both mathematical and scientific contexts.

Students in both calculus classes will have the options of taking the class for college credits through dual enrollment or taking the AP test in May for possible credits (3-8 depending on the class and the college he/she attends).  Students can choose to do neither option or do both. Students will be required to attend at least three AP practice sessions in the Spring semester regardless of what option they may choose.

About Me

I am an original Jaguar at DRHS, because I came here when the school opened.  I have been teaching Calculus for the past 8 years and have experience teaching both AP Calculus AB (Calculus I) and AP Calculus BC (Calculus I & II).  I have been teaching more than 35 years overall and have experience teaching several grade levels and multiple levels of mathematics.  Since coming to DRHS, I have taught various classes including Algebra I, Geometry, Honors Math 1-2, Honors Math 3-4, Remedial Math, and both levels of Calculus.  I have also been a frequent math tutor on Saturdays where I have the opportunity to help students at all levels.  I graduated from ASU twice, receiving my Bachelor’s Degree with a Math Major & English Minor and my Master’s Degree in Counselling.  I have six years of teaching experience in Junior High (grades 7-9) teaching both Math and English.  I spent 15 years of my teaching career teaching prevention programs in Prescott Unified School district, before coming to Gilbert Public Schools.

I am currently the sponsor of the Math Club and attend various competitions with my students.  I also work at Volleyball and Basketball home games throughout the year and try to attend at least one concert for each performing arts group and one performance put on by our drama program.  DRHS has been my home for the past 15 years, and I feel privileged to be able to teach in this wonderful community and have some of the best and brightest students that I have ever known.
