February 28, to March 2, 2019, Desert Ridge DECA took thirteen students to the Arizona DECA’s Annual State Career Development Conference. As a chapter we did very well, we had thirteen students compete, with many of them being their first time. Of those thirteen, we had five finalists and four students qualify for the International Career Development Conference which is held this year in Orlando, Florida. Some of the highlights: First year DECA member, and freshman, Aspen Keller, received a roleplay medal for having the top score in her section of Principles of Hospitality. First year member and senior Tanner Elkins, received a test medal for having a test score in the top 10% of all competitors, as well a role play medal for having the top roleplay score in his section of Principles of Business Administration. Tanner also qualified for finals and placed a commendable second which qualified him for the International Career Development Conference. Parker Goddard qualified for finals as well in Principles of Business Administration. We also had two written entries that qualified for finals as well as the International Career Development Conference. Halle Swinney and Brianna Wettig were a team and created a Start Up Business Plan. Their idea was to create a 3D Food Printer. Their 10 page written entry and their presentation qualified them for finals and placed them first in the state qualifying them for ICDC. Lastly, Alexandra O’Brien competed in Innovation Plan, by writing a 10 page paper on a company she created. She qualified for finals and placed first in the state which qualified her for the International Competition. Overall, we had a great showing at our State COnference and we can not wait to see what our competitors do at the International Career Development Conference in April! group picture
