AP Literature is a course that engages students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature. Through close reading of selected texts, students deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers. As they read, students consider a work's structure, style, and themes as well as such smaller-scale elements such as the use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone. (from AP CollegeBoard).
AP Language is a course that requires students to become skilled readers of prose written in a variety of rhetorical contexts and skilled writers who compose for a variety of purposes. Both their reading and their writing should make students aware of interactions among a writer's purposes, reader expectations, and an author's propositional content, as well as the genre conventions and the resources of language that contribute to effectiveness in writing.
English III is a course that introduces students to a variety of literary movements emphasized through the development of America and its history as represented through literature. The course, through close reading and analysis of foundational US texts as well as influential works of fiction, poetry, and prose, emphasizes a variety of stylistic choices writers employ to engage readers and communicate a specific message or experience.

This year at Desert Ridge will be my 8th year teaching, my 4th at The Ridge. Creating opportunities for students to engage in rich discussions about literature, writing, and analysis is a passion I look forward to each day.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading (obviously :) ), running and exercising, archery, and spending time with my family and two dogs, Maggie and Sadie.
